En 1953, dos anos antes de Pedro Paramo salio a la luz una recopilacion de cuentos con el titulo de El llano en llamas. Sirviendose de una gran maestria tecnica y de una gran habilidad para estructurar sus cuentos en torno a ciertos motivos recurrentes Rulfo analiza varios aspectos de la vida rural mexicana.
